Login Options for Personalized Features

Creating a personalized account for PubMed allows you to save searches, search preferences, and more.

Until June 2021, you can continue using your current MyNCBI account. To continue using your account after that, you'll need to create a new account using another login method and connect it with your MyNCBI account. Here is NLM's announcement: https://ncbiinsights.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2021/01/05/important-changes-ncbi-accounts-2021/

What login method should I choose?

Linking your account to a Google. NIH, or eRA Commons  account is an option. If you do not want to use any of these for authentication or are unable to do so, we recommend using Login.gov. If it's not listed in the initial choices, click "More sign up options" and search  for "Login.gov, USA"

Create a Login.gov account

  • Go to Login.gov and click sign in
  • Click Create an Account
  • Enter the email address you'd like to use
  • Click Submit
  • Go to that email, open the email from login.gov, and confirm your email address.
  • Create a password
  • Click Continue
  • Choose an Authentication Method setup
    • Select Phone if you are unsure about the other options.
  • Click Continue
  • Follow the Remaining Prompts

Connecting your New Account to an Existing MyNCBI Account

  • Login to your MyNCBI account
  • Click your username in the upper right corner
  • Click Account Settings
  • Under Linked Accounts, click Change
  • Enter whatever method you are using to authenticate (ex: "Google","Login.gov") in Search for Account Name
  • Follow the prompts to Login
  • That account should now be listed under Your Linked Accounts

Login using Login.gov

  • Click Log in when at PubMed
  • Click Login.gov
    • If Login.gov is not listed as an option:
      • Click more login options
      • Start typing login.gov
      • Click Login.gov, USA
