The Health Sciences Library (HSL) will be ending its subscription to Scopus on 12/31/2025.
This decision was based largely on access to research impact metrics, content overlap, and the library’s commitment to financial stewardship.
Regarding metrics used to evaluate research impact, Journal Impact Factor and Eigenfactor scores are exclusively available to Web of Science subscribers, like the HSL. In contrast, Scopus CiteScore, SCImago Journal Rank, and Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP) are freely available at https://www.scopus.com/sources.
Regarding biomedical journal coverage, Scopus is estimated to have almost a 99% overlap with Embase and Medline. HSL will continue to provide access to both of those databases.
