Accessing Library Resources Using OpenAthens

When trying to access Library managed resources (databases, journals, ebooks... etc) regardless of whether you are on campus or off campus, you will be prompted to log in using your SUNY Upstate credentials through OpenAthens. 

How do I access electronic resources through OpenAthens? 

  • Navigate the library web site to find resources. 
  • When you click on a licensed resource (ie database, journal article, ebook, etc.) that will take you to the publisher's website, a new page will open from login.openathens.net prompting you for a user ID and password.

Upstate Student, Staff or Faculty members:

For those users who have Upstate issued usernames and passwords, and can use email, the iPage, and/or other campus based services requiring a campus user account.

  • Select Upstate Medical University Users

 

  • Enter your username (full email address with @upstate.edu) and/or password as prompted through Microsoft.

 

Sign in using your full Upstate email address

  • Once you enter the proper credentials, the web site will take you to the selected library resource. 
  • If this your first time visiting a publisher using OpenAthens, it is very likely that you will be prompted to accept a privacy policy.
    • For some publishers, you must accept the policy in order to view the full text.

Accept Privacy Policy messages

 

"OpenAthens Accounts" (such as Emeritus and Voluntary Faculty):

  • For those without Upstate campus accounts/credentials and have applied for access to Library Resources, select OpenAthens

  • Enter the OpenAthens username and password provided by library staff.

  • Once you enter the proper credentials, the web site will take you to the selected library resource. 
  • If this your first time visiting a publisher using OpenAthens, it is very likely that you will be prompted to accept a privacy policy.
    • For some publishers, you must accept the policy in order to view the full text.
