Limiting a Search with Filters

Many databases allow you to apply filters to limit to your search. For example, you can apply a language filter to limit your search results to articles written in a specific language.

In most databases, these filters will appear on the left side after you run a search. The most commonly used filters include article or publication type, and publication dates.

You may wish to work with your librarian to discuss the best approach for your specific research needs.

Below, you will find just a few examples of filters and limits in frequently-used databases.

Filters in Selected Databases

A few of the many filters in Pubmed include date, article format and type, and associated data

Filters in Scopus include open access, year, subject area, document type, source, funding sponsor, affiliation, country, language

EBSCO Databases include CINAHL and PsycINFO, among others.
