Requesting Access

For those users who do not have Upstate campus accounts, the Library may be able to provide access based on your affiliation to SUNY Upstate, or through agreements we have with other institutions.

Who may apply for an OpenAthens Access account?

Emeritus Faculty
Voluntary Faculty
Visiting Faculty
VA physicians with dual appointments (Upstate/VA)
Upstate non-matriculated students

How do I apply for an OpenAthens account?

Emeritus: Many Emeritus faculty are able to keep their existing Upstate credentials, and will not need an OpenAthens account. However, if an Emeritus faculty is NOT keeping their Upstate credentials, they must complete an Emeritus Faculty OpenAthens Access Request Form - PDF Form.

Voluntary Faculty member: The Library has a Voluntary Faculty Guide filled with information based on your affiliation as to specific resources and services you are eligible for.

All others should submit a request to gain guest access by contacting the library. Be sure to include your affiliation and, if applicable, your department.
