ClinicalKey for Nursing
Learn how to get the most out of Upstate's top nursing resource.
Creating persistent links to ClinicalKey content
ClinicalKey links pulled from an address bar contain '#!' in the URL. They are not persistent links, meaning that they cannot be reliably shared or reused. These links will typically take you to ClinicalKey's homepage and not to the article or book chapter you are trying to access.
Example of a NON-STABLE link: https://www.clinicalkey.com/nursing/#!/browse/book/3-s2.0-C2018004815X
In ClinicalKey, persistent links are called "durable URLs." There are different ways to make durable URLs in ClinicalKey depending on the type of resource you want to share, but the easiest method is to use our OpenAthens link generator, which will both encode the URL and attach our OpenAthens prefix for reliable off-campus access.
- Go to https://go.openathens.net/generate/upstate.edu/71218858 and enter in the URL from the address bar (i.e., https://www.clinicalkey.com/nursing/#!/browse/book/3-s2.0-C2018004815X).
- In the table below under Open Athens link, you should get a link that looks like this: https://go.openathens.net/redirector/upstate.edu?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.clinicalkey.com%2Fnursing%2F%23%21%2Fbrowse%2Fbook%2F3-s2.0-C2018004815X
- Copy and paste that entire string into your address bar. It will ask for you to sign in through OpenAthens, and will then deliver you to the content.
