Locating Biomedical Images
The links below are an assortment of online resources for medical images, most are royalty & copyright free. Please see the information under the "Citing Images" tab if copyright status is unknown, or to assist with crediting the source of the image.

AccessMedicineUse the search bar on the homepage and filter by "Images".
If you are logged into your MyAccess profile, each image will give you the option to "Favorite Figure", which you can then download as PowerPoint slides. -
ClinicalKey for NursingUse the search bar on the homepage and filter by "Images".
If you are logged into your ClinicalKey personal account, each image will give you the option to "Add to Presentation". You can then download them as PowerPoint slides. -
CDC Public Health Image Library (PHIL)Most of the images in this collection are in the public domain. Permission is not required for public domain images, but we advise crediting the original institution and contributor if the image is used in any publicly distributed media.

Cell Image LibraryPublic repository of reviewed and annotated images, videos, and animations of cells from a variety of organisms, demonstrating cell architecture, intracellular functionalities, and both normal and abnormal processes

Health Education Assets Library (HEAL)Search database for images, video clips, animations, presentations, and audio files. Most are under Creative Commons license; check rights on individual items.

Mind the GapA clinical handbook with images of medical signs and symptoms on Black and Brown skins. Many of the images included are CC licensed from third-party sources.

National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Visuals OnlineMost of the images in this collection are in the public domain and are not subject to copyright restrictions. NLM: Digital CollectionsBrowsable collections including Images from the History of Medicine (IHM), World War 1, Medicine in the Americas 1610-1920, and many more. Royalty and copyright free.

NLM: Visible Human ProjectPublicly available 3D representations of a male and a female human body. These images include cross-sectional cryosections, CT, and MRI images.

Bassett Collection of Stereoscopic Images of Human AnatomyOver 1500 images and drawings, compiled in 1962 and made available through the Atlas Project. A Creative Commons license applies.

National Eye Institute Media LibraryThe National Eye Institute Media Library provides images and other media from multiple categories: eye exams and medical care, infographics, anatomy, laboratory, eye disease simulations, etc.
Images are typically licensed as US Government Works.
