The following sites are easy to search and provide high-quality copyright-free images.

CreativeCommons Search / cc search portalSearch or browse images afrom collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York Public Library, and Rijksmuseum. Image is accompanied by instructions for use and citation.

Google Advanced Images SearchUnder "usage rights," select the license terms you want to search for.

OpenverseSearch for images, streaming videos and media files from different collections including Flickr and YouTube. Can select the license type you want to search for.

PexelsRoyalty-free photography and very short videos.

PixabayAll images and videos on Pixabay are released free of copyrights under Creative Commons CC0. Attribution optional but appreciated. Note that the images presented at the top of the search results are sponsored and require purchase. Beware of embedded links to fee-based image services (i.e., iStock, etc.).

UnsplashFree high-resolution photos, attribution optional but good practice.

Wikimedia CommonsThe creative commons licenses for all images have been confirmed by Wikimedia editors.

The links below are an assortment of online resources for general images. Most are royalty and copyright free, but read carefully on each site as it can vary by image/collection. Please use the information under the "Citing Images" tab to credit the source of the image if needed, or if copyright status is unknown.

Copyright Free PhotosA collection of free images, with 12 free photo galleries to select from.

EuropeanaDigital images, artworks, books, music and more from European museums, galleries and libraries. Each image record includes information on the license type—many images are available for download and use.

Flickr | CreativeCommonsBrowse Flickr photos in the Creative Commons. To search by license for copyright-free images: Perform a search, then use the drop down above the photo gallery to choose "No known copyright restrictions" to limit to royalty free images. Always confirm that the image is free to use.

GratisographyFree high-resolution pictures you can use on your personal and commercial projects.

Pond5Library of video clips, a mix of free and paid options.
