The Nappi Wellness Institute, a five-story, 200,000-square-foot ambulatory care facility, opened on the SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital campus in June 2023. It is a WELL-certified outpatient facility with more than 240 exam and consultation rooms for primary and specialty care for chronic diseases.

It brought an array of care, research, and education resources under one roof. Among the programs and services available at the Nappi Wellness Institute are: Alzheimer’s disease research and care, the Joslin Diabetes Center, a geriatrics unit, behavioral health, an urgent care center, a radiology department and lab, immune health services, and a global health center.

The project broke ground in February 2000, employing 1,270 construction workers, and Stantec designed the new ambulatory care center. The $158 million project was funded by a grant from the state of New York and matching state bonds to address medical challenges facing an aging population, including Alzheimer’s disease, and to support the creation of a new health and wellness complex at Upstate Medical University. The building is named for Sam and Carol Nappi, who donated an $8-million gift to the Upstate Foundation, the largest monetary gift in the foundation's history.
